VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Evans Head Preschool has a vision for all Aboriginal children and Torres Strait Islander children to be afforded equal and equitable opportunities to: have a culturally safe preschool program; develop a strong sense of identity; develop a strong sense of belonging to community; be positively represented in our wider community; and have access to a culturally safe and inclusive preschool program supported by an Aboriginal Cultural Advisor.

Our vision is for families of Aboriginal children to: be given meaningful opportunities to engage with and collaborate with the preschool in an authentic manner; have input into the managerial and curriculum decisions made within in the preschool; and feel valued and have their cultures respectfully represented.

We also envision non-Indigenous Preschool Educators developing a deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families; understanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children’s learning styles; becoming culturally aware; developing an understanding of issues relating to colonisation and how these affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities; and developing an understanding of intergenerational trauma and how to promote healing.
